The Confederation of African Football (CAF) have officially announced Al Ahly striker Walid Azarou has been suspended for a couple of games, therefore missing the return leg of the Champions League final against Esperance.

Al Ahly will fly to Rades, Tunisia for the second leg of the final backed by a 3-1 advantage at Borg Al-Arab in a game that was accompanied by big controversy with Video Assistant Referee (CAF) being applied for the first time in an African competition.

Azarou was the protagonist of the game having earned two penalties for the Red Devils in the encounter. The Morocco international was, however, spotted by a camera lens ripping his shirt after Al Ahly were given their second penalty of the tie.

Tunisian Football Association raged in a statement released following the Esperance debacle, demanding the banning of Azarou.

CAF Disciplinary Board announced on Monday they have imposed a two-match ban on Azarou due to his unsporting behaviour, including the second leg of the final and Al Ahly’s next match in the CAF interclubs competitions.

In addition to the suspension, the 23-year-old striker has been fined 20,000 USD. Furthermore, Al Ahly coach Patrice Carteron will be invited to appear before the Disciplinary Board for a hearing regarding allegations of unsporting behavior.
